varicose veins leg ulcer dr shawn ahmed treatments

Diabetic foot ulcers present as shallow, crater-like red wounds on the surface of the skin of the foot, or sometimes as deeper wounds, extending over the skin and reaching the tendons and bones.

Sign of diabetic foot ulcers:

  • fluid leaking from the wound;
  • irritations, sweating, redness, unusual odors;
  • a black spot, which signals the lack of blood circulation in that place;
  • pain

The doctor evaluates the severity of the ulcer, on a scale from 0 to 3:

0 – there are no ulcerations, but the risk is high

1- the ulcer is present, but not infected;

2 – the ulcer is deep, reaching the level of the tendons or bones

3 – the ulcer is present and there are infections

Leg ulcer treatment

The healing process of diabetic foot ulcers depends on:

  • The depth of the ulcer
  • The existence of a suitable blood circulation to provide oxygen and nutrients
  • Lack of pressure or friction in the ulcer
  • The presence or absence of an infection

A patient who suffers from ulcers, but who has good blood circulation and specialized medical care from doctors such as Dr Shawn Ahmed, may have a shorter healing process, i.e. three to six weeks. In more severe cases, this process may take from 12 to 20 weeks.
